Who we are

balita.fyi is published by Cebu Metro News, a newsroom based in the Philippines. No party, candidate or advertiser owns or controls the site.

How we work

  • We collect reports from a listed set of Philippine news outlets (for example GMA News, Inquirer, Philstar, Rappler, SunStar) and group the reports about the same event.
  • An AI model (Claude, made by Anthropic) writes short news, an Easy Read version and longer stories using only the facts in those reports. It names the outlet for key facts and skips a story when the reports are too thin.
  • Every story lists and links its sources underneath.
  • Numbers are checked by the system: a figure or chart value appears only if the number is found in the reports. Places are checked against the PSA gazetteer.
  • AI-written stories are published automatically and clearly labeled. Not every story is reviewed by a person before it appears; our editors can correct or remove any story at any time.
  • Some stories are written or edited by our editors.

Use of AI

Every AI-written story carries a label saying so. We never invent quotes, numbers or images that are not in the reports or in our own material, and we do not use AI to make pictures of real people or events.

Corrections

Found a mistake? Write to cebu.metro.news@gmail.com with the story and what is wrong. We will correct the story or remove it. A corrected story shows a new updated time.

Independence

  • Advertisers and sponsors have no say over our reporting; every sponsor line says so.
  • Paid political content is labeled "Paid for by …", approved by an editor, listed in a public library of paid content, and hidden on election eve and election day.
  • We use Google Trends to see what people are searching for. It only steers what we cover; it is never a source of facts.

Languages

Every story is written in Bisaya, Filipino and English — natively in each language, not translated word for word. Easy Read versions use short sentences and everyday words.
